Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin – Front Page Confidential has Launched

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, after a run in with Joe Arpaio in 2007, had to make some drastic changes in their business lives. They were committed to these changes because, despite them being at it for years, their battle with Joe Arpaio was long from over.

As journalists, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin worked together to lead their team in investigative efforts into Joe Arpaio, who was Sheriff of Maricopa County at the time. The team investigated him because he was known to abuse his power, abuse people, and abuse the justice system. In the Phoenix New Times, they finally published an article that Arpaio believed gave him the right to arrest them. They published the details of a court subpoena.

Joe Arpaio was wrong. The courts decided that in individual has the right to disclose the information in a court subpoena that they have been served. The only laws on the books concerning the release of such information pertains to the issuer of the subpoena, not the recipient. The result of the illegal arrest was a 3.75 million dollar lawsuit towards Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

The journalists sold off the Phoenix New Times and set up shop in a more altruistic manner with The Frontera Fund: a charity. In order to assist the victims of Arpaio, who were primarily Hispanic, The Frontera Fund donates money to causes that relate to immigration and assisting the Hispanic community within Arizona.

They haven’t given up on their journalism though. Lacey and Larkin also created Front Page Confidential, where they are still continuing the fight against Joe Arpaio. They have even branched out to a wider range of political opponents. Any politician that wishes to oppress or discriminate will eventually find themselves the topic of an article by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. Front Page Confidential launched in August of 2017.
